Simply put, I love what I do. To be invited to photograph the most special times of peoples lives makes me feel lucky and honored. Whether capturing the smallest details of a wedding or photographing a new member of the family, I can't think of anything else I would rather be doing.
My style is a blend of documentary and modern traditional photography. I love to capture the moment and emotion of an event by being unobtrusive, creative and spontaneous. I have an eye for detail and the experience to anticipate the moment. Having been a bride myself, I have a unique perspective on weddings, which is evident in my images. I photograph your event the way I would want my own wedding photographed. I will never pull you away from your party to take a picture, and I will never pose you artificially. In the end, you receive fully edited images that will tell the story of your day.
I started studying photography at the age of 15 and continued my education at the School of Visual Arts in New York, and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. I am an active member of the Professional Photographers of America and continue to further my photography education through classes and seminars. When I graduated from college, I was unsure about supporting myself as a photographer, so I entered the corporate world and continued to shoot as a hobby. When I got to the age when it seemed like all of my friends were getting married, I started taking photos at their weddings. They all told me that they like the ones that I took better than the ones they paid for and encouraged me to start photographing weddings professionally. After getting my start through referrals, in 2003 it made sense for me to make my business official. Since then, I've met hundreds of fabulous couples and been lucky enough to photograph their weddings.
As my married friends starting having babies, I, of course, photographed them as well. I learned that I absolutely love photographing kids and families and by word of mouth, my portrait business grew. After having my first baby in 2005, my perspective changed a little bit, and I think that shows in my work. I wanted to capture every little detail of my daughters personality as she grew, especially in the first year. I photograph kids and families in the same manner I do weddings. I let the event unfold and capture the special moments. The results are timeless, intimate portraits that portray your family as it truly is.
